Perspectives2010
Perspectives was an after-school offering of the Indianapolis Museum of Art that provided young people the opportunity to explore Art, Design, Nature and Technology as a path to new ways of seeing their environment and the world. Students gained holistic insights by learning ways artists express ideas through art; understanding how design and nature impact their lives; while utilizing new media technologies to connect and communicate with youth from other cultures.
In 2010 My City, My World collaborated with Perspectives on a program that connected students from Indianapolis Public Schools #14, #43 and the Cold Spring School with students at Christel House South Africa.
Christel House builds and operates learning centers in impoverished neighborhoods with the goal of creating sustainable social and educational impact. Christel House students are drawn from throughout the Cape Town area and represent a broad range of South African culture.
While the living conditions and cultural orientation of dis-empowered youth in Cape Town may differ greatly from at-risk populations in the United States, there is a common thread running through the life stories of each group.
